She Divine and Libertine Existence (Spain) A strange and different parallel musical universe where darkwave, gothic, avant-garde, experimental, electro, IDM... industrial, metal, progressive, psychedelia... build a gloomy musical snare out of any possible dimension, with a slight madness touch... June 2004
Wilmar Tall (The Netherlands) It is not your average easy listening music. That is because Gothic wants to create instead of follow... If you are looking for songs, I should recommend the latest release by Velvet Revolver, if you are into adventure, moods and avant-garde, Gothic is your band. June 2004
Giuliana Zunino (Italy) Disarmonico. Delirante. Inaspettato… June 2004
Hard Wired (United Kingdom) Listening to this is like having teeth pulled, or two knitting needles rammed up your nose... Please Gothic, either give up, or go back to the mountains and come back when you’ve got some talent. Gothic have taken the concept of music and turned it inside out and created a new form of Un-Music, maybe even Anti-Music. ... Grim is a vivid guide to the future of goth music, a future darker than any of us could have imagined. June 2004
June 2004
Clubbizarre (New Zealand) ... its a fantastic release and theres so much on it. great work indeed. so refreshing to see a band that takes such pride in themselves to put so much effort into their work. July 2004
Goth In Asia (Philippines) Wonderful album… i guess i'm used to bands that are predictable, like most bands you hear today. it's not like everyday that i hear bands playing your type of music :) July 2004
Rockezine (The Netherlands) ... music so unpredictable and insane!!! ... Gothic definitely are an unconventional band... ! experimenting is the key to progress, Gothic appear to have comprehended this. July 2004
Back Again (Germany) Really, not an easy album, just to consume. It needs some time and concentration to realize the full aspects of this album, but everyone, who gives GOTHIC a chance, will get a great Dark Wave-experience for sure! July 2004
July 2004
Dominic and Luke Hatton (United Kingdom) In today's world of quick-fix, disposable music, there are rarely any musicians out there that actually challenge the listener... "Grim" is a highly complex, densely layered piece of work. With an album like this, the listener can find something new with each repeated listen. July 2004
July 2004
Inferno Magazine (Finland) The music itself is diversified, almost like an over-developed gene-mutation due to the alternating parts that seem to jump from connection todisconnection, like cellphones switching betweenoperator bands, and tie the knots harder around the spiral core itself. August 2004
Gothtronic (The Netherlands) It seems that they try to deliver a piece of art. That succeeds partially, but it will shock a lot of people as well... This isn’t music that you will listen easy to at home... August 2004
Kathodik (Italy) Di gothic in questo doppio album c'è qualcosa. L'atmosfera, i testi, i rimandi. Però c'è anche molto di electro. Ci sono molti spunti. Molte intersezioni. August 2004
Grave Concerns Ezine (USA) ... the double disc set is a poorly mixed lo-fi mess of random misguided eclectic experimental tendencies and sloppy performances/programming that doesn't even come close to reaching the band's lofty ambitions. September 2004
Antti Kivilahti (Finland) It is WEIRD album. Very, very weird. It will take countless of listening sessions to get into it even somewhat. A good tip is also to keep a lengthy breaks from listening "grim" - it helps to the mental torment this album creates in you... September 2004
October 2004
Side-Line (Belgium) The musical arrangements throughout “Grim” are all over the place and are very sloppy to the listener... I really don’t have a lot of positives to say, but the name says it all this CD is definitely grim. October 2004
Shout! Online (Russia) Halloween was well done :) We play two your trax plus your special mix too;) People danced with great pleasure, few of them even noticed new name on dance-floor :) November 2004
November 2004
Stefan Schneider (Germany) ... it has something lovecraftian in it. it's a thing that can produce neuronical impressions, which were normally observed under the influence of stronger psychodelicas and is therefore to dose the same way as those. November 2004
Funprox (The Netherlands) I admire the ambitions and adventureness of 'Gothic', but this album is not really my cup of tea. November 2004
DK666 (Italy) ...opera ipnotica e spiazzante…
December 2004
Chain DLK (Italy) ... they have compositive capacities, and many times they’re damn good, but they absolutely need to distinguish between the good intuition and the too confused arrangement. December 2004
January 2005
Nocturnal Hall (Austria) There comes a time in any music journalist span when one comes across a musical outfit that just raises ones ears to a melodious allure. For such as is for Italy’s own GOTHIC strike out with Grim... GOTHIC’s musical style is more like symbolic poetry with art blended in motion for Grim contrasts individual thought and creativity. January 2005
Eld Rich Palmer (Poland) ... my full respect for them for their brave attempts to make a new (?) quality in music. One word: bizarreness! ... Once, John Zorn, and Bill Laswell recorded their versions of grind core, and metal ( Naked City , Praxis). In some way, Gothic try to do the same things with gothic, and some electro-related genres... For those who don't fear risk - try this! January 2005
Neurozine (Sweden) The band Gothic say for themselves that they are so called "independent". This is, according to me, just a reason to hide the records useless music. February 2005
February 2005
Wrapped in Wire (Canada) It's obvious that the musicians involved in this project have talent, but more practice and improved audio production would be good. March 2005
Darklifezine (England) I was impressed by the complexity of Grim, it is a corageuos work and what's nice, it does not comply to schemes etc. Very progressive and articulate, nothing for easy listening! April 2005
May 2005
No, njihova mracna poetika, zanrovska isprepletenost govore i u prilog tvrdnji da prihvataju simbole ovog vremena. (A comparative pictures with Laibach, and even Borghesia, seems to me as a logical option but it's a true to say that conceptually the Italians touch expander fields. And production itself sounds as a sort of homage to mentioned 80's. But their darkest poetry, and vividly genre's investigations, speak that Gothic accept symbols of this time). May 2005
Tartarean Desire (Greece) "Grim" is an intolerable nightmare composed and played by musically (at least) twisted personalities. If they just make fun it’s O.K., but if they take themselves seriously by thinking they are great musicians and poets they should visit the psychiatrist at once. May 2005
Legends Magazine (USA) James Jason has a long long way to go. A decent band name, a wisening of his spirit – maybe getting out of puberty because Grim is nothing more than a childish attempt at music with some of the worst sequencing, mixing and it's easily one of the worst things to land here. June 2006
June 2006
